How to localize App Store and Google Play screenshots

Last checked against the stores' own documentation on .

In App Store Connect, screenshots belong to each localization: add the language to your app, then upload that language's set under it. A language without its own screenshots uses the ones for your primary language.

In Play Console, add a translation of your store listing and upload graphics for that language. Without them, Play shows your default language's graphics.

What to translate

  • The headlines first. They're the words people read. Have a native speaker check them: a literal translation of a short slogan often misses.
  • The app itself, if you can. Capture your app running in that language, so the screen and the headline agree.
  • Leave room. Translations often run longer than English, German and French especially. Headlines that fit in English may need a smaller size or a second line.
  • Check the script. Make sure your font has the characters for the language, and that right-to-left languages like Arabic and Hebrew read correctly.

Which languages first

  • Start with the countries where you already get the most visitors: your store analytics show them.
  • Translated text with English screenshots is a start; translated screenshots are what make a listing look made for that market.

Uploading

  1. App Store Connect: add the language to your app, switch to it on the version page, and drag each set under its display size.
  2. Play Console: add the language to your store listing translations, then upload that language's screenshots and feature graphic in its graphics section.

Doing it in Screenlyy

  1. Finish the set in your main language.
  2. In the project tree, open the listing's menu and choose Duplicate listing. Rename the copy for the language, like "German".
  3. Rewrite the headlines, and drop in captures of the app in that language.
  4. Export: every App Store and Google Play size for that language, in one zip.

Each language keeps the same layout, devices and backgrounds, so your listing looks the same everywhere.
